Of Spanish origin, in some areas it is also known as Viura or Alcañol.

The Spanish variety of Tierra de Castilla wines has grapes are medium sized, spherical, of a golden yellow colour and have quite a thick skin. Its wine is very resistant to oxidation. the musts, marketed as such, are very interesting due to their freshness and paleness.

Macabeo provides very pale Tierra de Castilla wine with a fruity flavour and a fixed strong acidity. It is excellent for producing sparkling and aged Spanish wines, of great aromatic intensity, with a structured palate and light astringent notes.
